audio visual

Come on by next Friday, July 23, 7-10PM, for our latest show called Audio Visual, featuring a collection of works honoring one of art and artists' most beloved companions, music. Eight of our usual partners in crime are participating in the show, and it's going to be a fun one.

We'll also be having our usual Street Food Fridays so get ready to feast, not just your eyes, but your mouth as well on the culinary artistry of Soul Cocina, Toasty Melts, Pearl's Kitchen, and Sweet Constructions. We hope to see you!

domesticates by grant gilliland

It's your last week to see Domesticates by Grant Gilliland in it's entirety, so come by fabric8 to have a look. Our apologies we haven't posted our own photos (the old remodelling excuse again) but the Gross Uncle has put some on his website, and you can check them out here. It's a wonderful collection indeed.

domesticates : new work by grant gilliland

We are pleased to present Domesticates, a solo show featuring new works by San Francisco artist Grant Gilliland aka The Gross Uncle.

Domesticates will feature portraits of animals and their two-legged friends, more commonly referred to as human beings. It also marks Grant's first-ever solo show of new works. This painter and illustrator's cutely grotesque renderings in vibrant color combinations have graced our walls for a couple of years now so we're excited to have him put together an entire collection.

Domesticates will be on exhibit from June 20 through July 18. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, June 20, from 7pm-10pm, so please come on by!

cosmic sailer by grant gilliland

Spaceships ahoy with Grant Gilliland's latest little guy, "Cosmic Sailor." Apparently he comes from outerseas and is pretty ear-resistible with his blond hair and funky outfit. Plus he wears his heart on his sleeve so you know he can't be a bad guy.

Painted with acrylic on an 8in. x 8in. canvas, you can bring him into your home for only US$ 125.

put 'er there by grant gilliland

Grant Gilliland aka The Gross Uncle does it again with a piece that is so weird it's so cute that it's so weird. "Put 'Er There" is an 8in. x 8in. acrylic painting on canvas and features another lovable freak, this time with a cap, funny hairdo, and his heart on his hat AND neck. How could you not love him? He can be yours for US$ 125.

reuben rude collaborations

Reuben Rude is one busy guy, juggling his commercial design work and many art shows (plus a new daughter!), so it's always a treat to get new pieces from him -- though they never stick around too long. During Mission Vinyl, he finished up a few Romanowski collabs and supplied both Grant Gilliland and Phoneticontrol with nice backgrounds for theirs. Check out the finished product::
untitled by Romanowski and Reuben Rude, collage and acrylic on wood, 8.5in. x 24.25in., US$ 475
untitled by Romanowski and Reuben Rude, collage and acrylic on wood, 6.75in. x 16in., US$ 400

The opening will take place at both shops -- Neon Monster on 22nd/Castro from 3-7PM and fabric8 from 5-9PM -- so you can hop between spots to see the entire collection. More info to come.

Also the following Saturday afternoon, August 23, fabric8 will be hosting Live Painting with Sirron Norris and Ursula Young so mark your calendars for two weeks of artistic fun!

mission vinyl @ fabric8 on sunday

This Sunday brings Mission Vinyl, our fun summertime record sale, BBQ, and group painting collaboration that's now a fabric8 tradition! Some of our favorite old school SF DJs bring records to sell and play them as well (so if you like it, you can buy it!) while we paint, eat, and get happy.

This year's live painting collab features Reuben Rude, Phoneticontrol, Grant Gilliland, Daniel Fleres, Santos Shelton, Andy Stattmiller, and Josh Taylor ... so bring some goodies for the grill/cooler and hang with us family style!

grant gilliland on sf station tv

Grant Gilliland aka The Gross Uncle is a ridiculously talented (as well as talented in the ridiculous) young artist whose paintings and Sharpie masterpieces have been gracing the walls of fabric8 and our patrons for the better part of a year now. You may have also seen his illustrations in the SF Weekly or at sunny Dolores Park, where he hosts his monthly Team Draw parties in the summertime.

Our old Interweb colleagues at SF Station have now gotten their hands on him to decorate their weekly entertainment guide, a post previously held by none other than Ursula Young, who did a painting collaboration with Grant at fabric8's (1)2-Year Anniversary Party. Check out this nice little interview on SF Station TV.
