systemic: new works by brian barneclo

Our next show in the fabric8 Galleries will be a solo exhibition by painter and muralist Brian Barneclo. Titled "Systemic", it will explore the concept of interconnectivity in urban, social, and cultural systems, as well as mark the launch of his Systems Mural Project, a 2400-square-foot public work he is raising funds for. The show will open Friday, March 5, so mark your calendars!

This Saturday and Sunday, October 24-25, from 11AM-6PM, come visit Brian Barneclo's world as part of ArtSpan's 2009 Open Studios. There will be new works, never-before-seen gems, prints, and even a raffle to win a masterpiece for the price of an appetizer. Cash and credit cards accepted. Don't miss it!

In addition to contributing a piece to the fabric8 Galleries Grand Opening Show, Brian Barneclo is putting the finishing touches on a solo show which will be on display for three months at the swanky District wine bar and restaurant near Giants Ballpark.

The opening reception will be held on Thursday, July 30, from 6-9PM, so please join us.

Brian Barneclo gives us a little taste of his latest stylings with these subtly complex 8in. x 8in canvases. Revisiting his love of music and the people who make it, these seemingly simple paintings of a guitarist and percussionist manage to continue pulling you in to appreciate the use of line and color. Certainly small treasures, these instant classics are priced at US$ 150.

We finally met Andre Karpov, the man behind the murals at Pizzeria Delfina (18th near Guerrero) and Range (Cunningham off Valencia btwn 19th and 20th), who brought by this print of a new watercolor painting of his, titled "She Grew On Me".

Andre has been painting for many years and began his tutelage under a Japanese tea master at the age of 14. He is currently working on an entire body of work so we look forward to seeing more from him.

Meanwhile this print of "She Grew On Me", sized at 19in. x 11in., and another can be yours for only US$ 40.

This ceramic tiki is super-fresh! Created by Tiki Farm in a limited edition of 300 in 2006, it stands 9.5in. x 5in. and has been re-painted and styled by the one and only Brian Barneclo. It's priced at US$ 350 -- email us if you're interested.

Sirron Norris is quite busy these days promoting his recently-completed SF Heart Installation along with some independent consulting projects, but he did have time to bust out these small but powerful paintings for fabric8, two of which have already sold.

leon loucheur

Leon Loucheur translates to "cross-eyed lion" in French, so it is quite fortunate that he grew up in Southern California and not the South of France. He attended Humboldt State University, where he graduated with a degree in Social Science and a case of careeraphobia. He spent the next ten years tending bar and making art of various kinds. He currently resides in San Francisco with his wife and daughter and spends much of his time painting murals like the ones in Pesce and Beretta.

Loucheur recently dropped off these two 8in. x 8in. paintings, done in acryic and collage and offering a nice combination of street art, traditional rendering, and fun. They're priced at US$ 150 each. Email us for more info.

Anyone who has admired the many murals in San Francisco has also admired Sirron Norris' work. With about a dozen public commissions around town, he has certainly helped to make the city a more colorful place. He also keeps fabric8 supplied with a collection of small affordable pieces and t-shrts depicting the city and of course his lovable bears (now with arms!).

He recently delivered his latest masterpiece for the masses, a full-color poster for only US$ 20(!). It measures 18in. x 24in. and is very easy to frame but you can also get a framed, signed copy here for US$ 75. Run, don't walk for yours!

JUST ANNOUNCED:: Painter and muralist Brian Barneclo will open his studio doors THIS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 26, from 11AM-4PM. You can view and purchase recent works by the artist and see where all the magic happens. This coincides with this weekend's Open Studios in the neighborhood.

Brian Barneclo's studio can be accessed from 586 Stevenson Street between 6th and 7th Streets one block south of Market. Parking is available in lots near 7th and Mission Streets. If you've been wanting to invest in a piece of his, Sunday is the time to do it.

Brian Barneclo has started work on a mural in the fabric8 garden, which will be unveiled during the Brian Barneclo Mural/Painting Party next Sunday, June 22, from 1-5PM.

He will also be painting live a series of interconnected pieces, which will be available for purchase as soon as they're done. There will be recent works for sale, an art give-away, refreshments, and fun, so come on down!

For the past decade, Barneclo has adorned the walls of the Bay Area’s restaurants and streets with his jazzy, colorful murals inspired by life in San Francisco -- NoPa, Puccini & Pinetti, 83 McAllister Street, the SF Bay Guardian Building, the Food Chain Mural @ Foods Co, Escape from New York Pizza (Redwood City), and Rico’s Diner (Oakland). His latest contribution to the city landscape in fabric8’s garden is a mix of urban and organic, combining his trademark street style with a new twist.

Our event coincides with the First Annual Mission Statement Block Party & Fashion Show on Lexington Street between 18th & 19th -- one more reason to visit the sunny Mission next Sunday!

Ever the ambitious artist, Brian Barneclo uses a plethora of materials and paints to create his jazzy urban pieces. Lately he's been experimenting with 1 Shot Enamel, an oil-based sign paint that's bright and durable ... but doesn't leave room for mistakes. No matter, though; he didn't make any on these amazing new paintings which have also been covered in resin for that extra-shiny finishing touch.

And for those who prefer Barneclo's more raw style, we've got "Janky," which is really anything but that. Somehow the word seems to complete the painting nonetheless.

Brian Barneclo has just completed a brand-new website, chock full of his paintings, murals, and design projects in still and video. We also get insight into his world philosophy via hand-picked quotes from luminaries such as Buddha, Carl Jung, Martin Luther King Jr., John Belushi, and Yoda. Big ups to SF music/web veteran Dan Prothero (Fog City Productions) for the clean and easy design.
