daniel fleres
Painter, illustrator, and designer Daniel Fleres is the latest artist to join the ever-expanding fabric8 roster. We met him when he co-curated the dope Heavy Hitterz group art show in San Francisco last November (and going to Manila in May!) with us, Phoneticontrol, and the Speaker Fruits.
These lovely 8x8s are a good representation of his fun surreal style, all done with acrylic. They're priced to move at US$ 125 each and can be better viewed in our online gallery or in person at fabric8.
spring solstice = party time!
Wondering what to do tonight to celebrate the vernal equinox? Well, apparently the question is what NOT to do, as there appear to be a plethora of amazing options.
Mr. Scruff and Kraak & Smaak @ Mighty SF:: Despite their dubious monikers, these two European acts (from the UK and Holland) deliver some supremely-polished jazzy beats. With supporting DJs Motion Potion, Malarkey, and our buddy Vinnie Esparza, this looks like a night not-to-be-missed. $20 at the door and going until 4am.
Loose Joints @ the Make-Out Room SF:: Legendary DJ and friendly neighbor Tom Thump delivers a weekly dose of funky dance grooves one short block away from fabric8, alongside fellow resident DJs Centipede and Damon Bell. This party happens every Friday from 10-2, so if you don't go tonight then consider it in the future! $5.
Darondo and Nino Moschella @ Shattuck Down Low Berkeley:: Ubiquity Records presents an evening of wonderful live music with 70s soul legend Darondo as well as Nino Moschella, the keyboardist everyone seems to be talking about. 9:30pm. $12.
Society of Saints and Sinners @ the Holy Grail SF:: J-Boogie and M3 take over for Toph One this week at the up-and-coming hotspot on Polk @ Fern, brought to you by the one and only Mark Herlihy (Future Primitive). 10pm-2am. $5, if that, at the door.
Spindig! @ Butter SF:: DJ Stef of Vinyl Exchange has moved her monthly Happy Hour to this funky spot so you can enjoy tater tots, beanie weenies, and junkyard dogs along with your beats and cocktails. 6-9pm. No cover.

new mildred pieces
The ever-elusive Mildred came by with a few small pieces the other day, and one of them is made with REAL dollar bill$, which must mean he's rolling in some kind of dough.
The pieces are nonetheless priced very reasonably, with the 8x8s going for $170 (top left image) and $126 (top right image), and the set of two on the bottom for $100. You can see larger images of the 8x8s on the fabric8 Gallery site, or just come on by our shop in SF's Mission District.

dino ignacio aka marikina
We hope you've noticed the dope flyer design for Directions In Sound, which is happening tonight @ 111 Minna (don't forget!). It was created by artist Dino Ignacio aka Marikina, member of the Speaker Fruits art collective and a bit of a legend in certain circles of the indie world.
Marikina has created numerous graphics for Bindlestiff Studios and the piNoisepop Festival plus videos for the Skyflakes and Goh Nakamura, not to mention cool paintings like the one pictured above, a two-sided collaboration with woodworker Simbulan -- yours for only US$ 400!
An all-time favorite, though, is the hilariously funny Maritess vs. Superfriends animation which he created back in the day with Filipino comic Rex Navarette. Here it is for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

new sirron norris paintings
Sirron Norris recently dropped off two new paintings to fabric8. He's busy these days working on commissions, a new mural, and a book, but that doesn't mean he can't bust out a few funky bear pieces for us!
"Love Love Love" is a 16in. x 20in. canvas priced at US$ 700, and the second untitled piece is 36in. x 36in., painted on masonite and priced at US$ 1200. Email us at fabric8 for more info or to purchase.
There are also a few new 8x8s viewable on the fabric8 Gallery page.
romanowski art shows
One week ago, we rolled to Romanowski's second solo art opening in a month, this time at the lovely Hotel Biron, a Euro-ish wine bar tucked behind Zuni. Romanowski's shadow box collages looked so damn good in there, we proceeded to imbibe two bottles of Prosecco and leave our clothes there. Luckily, the kind owners held on to them for us.
Check out Romanowski's art shows in March @ Hotel Biron, 45 Rose Street near Gough, as well as @ Madusalon, 300 Divisadero on the corner of Page.
And, of course, fabric8 always carries Romanowski's art, music, mixes, and tees. Whether you've got $13 or $1300, we can sort you out with some Romanowski action.

directions in sound :: friday 03.14 @ 111 minna
The 26th Annual San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival is upon us, and so is their annual electronic music showcase, Directions in Sound, happening this Friday, March 14 @ 111 Minna.
The line-up includes No Luck Club (Vancouver), Proof (Massive Selector), Maneesh the Twister & MC Daddy (Surya Dub), Nako (Popscene), Amar (Surya Dub), Ana Sia (3WS), and Robot Hustle (Honey Sound System). There will also be a fashion show by Azalea and visuals by Ohashi. Tickets are $12 pre-sale at the SFIAAF website or $15 at the door.
If that's not enough for you, consider attending the festival's Opening Night Gala at the Asian Art Museum on Thursday, March 13, 9:30PM to Midnight. For $25, you get to eat, drink, and listen to the dope sounds of fabric8's very own Similak Chyld along with DJ Proof (Massive Selector) and the No Luck Club (Vancouver), all the while revelling in the fact that you're partying in a museum!
Oh, and be sure to check out the festival films as well.

red wine social :: wednesdays @ dalva
It's Wednesday, which means we ponder mid-week libations and probable debauchery via DJ Toph One and only's Red Wine Social @ Dalva, 3121 16th Street near Valencia, 10PM on (no cover!).
This drinking institution has been going on for some 144 years (or a divisor thereof) and guarantees lots of surprise appearances, lessons in the language of Errrry, and swinging chandeliers. Or, at least, one super cool and equally friendly DJ.
Guests have included Mr. Scruff, Tim "Love" Lee, DJ Chicken George, Romanowski, Colossus, Consuelo, Rueben, B-Love, John John, and sooo many, many more. Come on down.

phoneticontrol x ursula young
One of the things we like to do here at fabric8 is bring together the artists that we work with to create collaborative paintings. In the past, we've teamed up Brian Barneclo, Ferris Plock, and Romanowski; Sirron Norris and Ursula Young; and Nomzee and Reuben Rude.
For our (1)2-Year Anniversary Party, Phoneticontrol provided a lovely purple and gold background for Ursula Young to paint live on (the bottom image). It turned out so good, it sold the moment it was completed. Now they're back for a sophomore effort that is arguably even better!
Email us at fabric8 for more info or to purchase.
