fabric8 goes to hollywood

If you live in LA, or are looking for an excuse to visit, you must come to "Bay to LA", our art show with Norm Maxwell Gallery, 430 N. Fairfax Avenue, on Saturday, September 11, 6-10PM.

Featuring Norm Maxwell -- fine artist, gallery owner, and long-time fabric8 collaborator -- plus Ursula X Young and Brian Barneclo's Los Angeles debut(!) and a few choice pieces from Reuben Rude and Erik Otto, it's guaranteed quality fun.

The opening coincides with the Fairfax Art Walk, a monthly event started by Maxwell on the same block that brings you fine retail by Turntable Lab, HUF, Diamond Supply Company, Animal Restaurant, and Canter's Deli. Please join us!

Alternately, if you're staying in/near SF that weekend but want first dibs on the artwork, email us to attend our preview on Wednesday, September 8.

tomorrow is never promised

Opening Thursday, September 2, 7-10PM, fabric8 is pleased to present the first half of Tomorrow Is Never Promised, a solo show featuring new works by artist Erik Otto. The second half of the show will debut the following week at White Walls.

In his largest solo show to date, filling two San Francisco galleries, Erik Otto illustrates the themes of struggle one must face in order to achieve growth – self-fulfillment versus self-destruction and how the transient nature of time dictates the uncertainty of life. The new body of work, which is more abstract and expressive then his past pieces, addresses the idea of facing one’s personal fears in order to reach true potential and real progress.

Erik Otto exhibits in galleries nationally and internationally. With an education in Illustration, Design, Screen Print, and Street Art, Otto practices his art across multiple disciplines. In addition to painting, he has designed and built large-scale installations, theatre sets, retail storefronts, private commissions, and independent film sets. Otto recently completed the acclaimed Artist-in-Residence program at Recology San Francisco and is committed to using recycled paint and materials to produce work that is both expressive and conceptual. He received his BFA from San Jose State University and currently lives and works in the Mission District of San Francisco.

Tomorrow Is Never Promised will be on exhibit from September 2 through October 4 at fabric8; as well as from September 11 through October 3 at White Walls Gallery. Be there!
