audio visual

Come on by next Friday, July 23, 7-10PM, for our latest show called Audio Visual, featuring a collection of works honoring one of art and artists' most beloved companions, music. Eight of our usual partners in crime are participating in the show, and it's going to be a fun one.

We'll also be having our usual Street Food Fridays so get ready to feast, not just your eyes, but your mouth as well on the culinary artistry of Soul Cocina, Toasty Melts, Pearl's Kitchen, and Sweet Constructions. We hope to see you!

c lee sobieski

A little while has passed since C Lee Sobieski last dropped off paintings, but it's certainly been worth the wait! His latest set of 4in. x 4in. and 8in. x 8in. pieces, priced from US$ 100-150, includes some of his signature characters as well as a few new funky creatures. These meticulous works of art are all done freehand so, in addition to being constantly amused by them, you can be endlessly amazed by the super clean lines.

You can have a closer look when you come to fabric8 for the Brian Barneclo Mural/Painting Party tomorrow!

lost at sea by erik otto

As we mentioned before, the small pieces that Erik Otto brings by seem to go faster than they come. This time one of them got purchased on the way here -- it never even made it!

Above is the sole survivor, "Lost At Sea", a wonderful 8x8 priced nicely at US$ 200, as well as a little preview of his solo show "Sea Of Change", which opens July 19 @ The Shooting Gallery. Don't miss it.

untitled 8x8s by Ursula Young, acrylic on canvas, US$ 140. larger images are viewable here.

june 22 :: brian barneclo @ fabric8

Save the afternoon of June 22 for yet another day of art and culture in San Francisco's sunny Mission District. fabric8 will be hosting the ever-talented Brian Barneclo and several hours of hijinx + extra-curricular activities (more info to follow), while our friends at the Mission Statement fashion co-op on 18th/Valencia are having a block party to celebrate their opening. Art, fashion, music, culture, and fun -- what more could you ask for?

Above is one of the three paintings Brian Barneclo did at last year's event, and it sold for a fraction of its actual worth. You, too, can be as lucky as the couple who scooped this up. Come on down.

romanowski assemblages

We all know that Romanowski is a man of many talents -- artist, DJ, producer, stylist -- yet he never ceases to amaze with his quirky creations. Just the other day he dropped off several naturally dope assemblages and, being the self-referential San Franciscans we are, one -- a tribute to the city's landmarks -- kinda blew us away. You have to come by the shop to really understand it but here are some pix to give you an idea::

untitled by Romanowski, collage and spray paint on wood, 47in. x 6.25in., US$ 450

ursula young @ the salon

Saturday evening Ursula Young celebrates the opening of "Stars of the New Revolution", her solo show @ The Salon, a new-ish hair spot on Guerrero in the Mission. Come see new paintings and illustrations around the theme of revolution and, should you find yourself in the spirit, start one of your own with some daring 'do! The reception is 7-9pm on Saturday, June 7 at 377 Guerrero near 16th Street.

vinyl apocalypse @ lower haters

This Friday our friends at Lower Haters are having an opening reception for their Vinyl Apocalypse group art show, featuring artified vinyl records from 35 painters and illustrators including Romanowski (who is also DJing), Ursula Young, Phoneticontrol, Brett Amory, Ben Collison, Leecifer, Eli Maness, and Debbie Huey. Check it out -- 7-11pm on Friday, June 6 on the corner of Haight and Steiner in (where else?) the Lower Haight!

new daniel fleres 8x8s

Daniel Fleres is at it again with his cute but cool paintings. These two 8in. x 8in. enigmas appeared on Carnival Sunday and, keeping in character, the ghost disappeared just like that! The mysterious masked man(?) is still available for US$ 125 so don't miss your chance to own it.

5.28.2008

new andy stattmiller pieces

Painter/illustrator Andy Stattmiller dropped off these yummy little pieces of art to snack on. True classics, the pretzel and cupcake have been a staple of the munchie universe for several generations so it's only right they be immortalized on canvas.

These acrylic paintings are 6in. x 4in. and 4in. square; and cost only US$ 65 and US$ 50, which is what we may soon be paying for the edible version. Might as well have a picture, then -- it'll last longer.

nate 1 : old school and new skool

Graffiti artist and graphic designer Nate1 has made his name in today's streetwear market as the producer of New Skool, the dope classic kiddie line and adult tees/hoodies that originated the headphones graphic.

But back in the day, Nate1 rolled with San Francisco's legendary MPC crew, hitting up Psycho City and other hotspots when he should've been home studying for his SATs. He's outgrown his rebellious side but never the super-tight graffiti style that helped define that early generation of street art.

He doesn't paint live often, but you can catch Nate1 this Sunday @ fabric8 along with David Choong Lee. Come through to check how fine art meets street on an upper echelon.

4.16.2008

johnny siu

Johnny Siu aka Thylacine Graphics is a San Francisco illustrator and aesthete who occasionally brings by darkly darling drawings on perfectly-packaged paper or subtly-stained surfaces. He also decorates the city streets with flowery wheatpastes asking "Where are all my thylacines?"

"Pascale" (US$ 165), "Tina" (US$ 110), and "Valerie's Reverie" (US$145) make up the latest batch of pieces by Johnny Siu available at fabric8. Email us for larger images or to purchase.

4.14.2008

new ursula young pieces

Ursula Young dropped off these small, pretty pictures (priced at US$ 120-140) on her way to A Cidade Maravilhosa, sometimes known as Rio de Janeiro, for an undoubtedly fabulous three-week excursion.

Ursula has been providing fabric8 with a steady supply of beauteous art, tees, and accessories for about 4 years now. Her ladies and cityscapes look especially nice in our Mission District shop, while her mural that graces our walls holds up exceedingly well. Assuming she doesn't decide to stay in Brazil, more is on the way.
